Vaccines Likely to Return: Members of a panel of medical experts in Japan said they didn’t believe Pfizer’s Prevnar and Sanofi-Aventis’s ActHIB childhood vaccines are connected to the deaths of five kids there in the past few months, Dow Jones Newswires reports . That means the vaccines, against bacterial infections that can lead to meningitis and pneumonia, will likely return to use in Japan, DJN says. They were temporarily taken out of circulation pending the results of the investigation. Exit Payment: Genzyme CEO Henri Termeer, who will leave the biotech after it’s been acquired by Sanofi-Aventis , will receive $158.4 million from the deal from his stock holdings and other payments, Bloomberg News reports , citing an SEC filing. Termeer said when the deal was announced that he plans to leave after a transition period, BN says. Depending on the future performance of Genzyme’s experimental MS drug, Termeer could gain another $62.8 million worth of

contingent value rights, BN says. Corner-Office Changes: Specialty-medication and drug-delivery company Hospira named as its new CEO the current president of Allergan, the WSJ reports . F. Michael Ball will take the reins from current Hospira CEO Christopher Begley on March 28, the paper says. Begley becomes Hospira’s executive chairman. New Model: Some primary-care medical practices are eschewing the traditional fee-for-service payment system for a monthly membership fee that covers unlimited access, Kaiser Health News reports . Washington state, where there’s a law encouraging these arrangements, has seen an increase in the number of practices charging between $85 and $135 a month, KHN reports. The health-care overhaul law includes a provision that permits plans including so-called direct-pay practices to be sold on state insurance exchanges that are set to roll out in 2014.
