One day after two New England Journal of Medicine studies showed that one dose of H1N1 vaccine made by CSL Ltd. and another made by Novartis appeared to be efficacious, new data suggests that one dose of Sanofi Pasteur’s vaccine is also enough to induce a “robust” immune response in most adults, according to new NIH data . “We are pleased to note that preliminary analyses of early data from the NIAID trials align with the recently announced findings and those to be announced imminently by other companies,” Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infections Diseases. Getting the same result from three different trials is good news for public health officials, who feared that a two-dose vaccination regimen would lower compliance because some people wouldn’t come back for the second

shot. The need for just one shot may also ease worries about having an adequate supply of vaccine. But, young children might need two doses because the first will be used to ready the body to produce a useful immune response, notes Dow Jones Newswires . Government officials have said that vaccine will become available starting in mid-October and distributed to state health departments, according to DJ Newswires. They’ll be distributed to each state’s heath department. Additional vaccine will be shipped as it’s made. The NIH is conducted a number of studies testing the vaccine on 4,600 volunteers, and aims to have data on kids shortly, according to the Washington Post .
