The H1N1 flu (or, if you prefer, swine flu) continues to rattle around the globe. Here’s an update: Buenos Aires has declared a health emergency . There have been 26 confirmed swine flu deaths in Argentina, though the actual toll may be higher, the WSJ reports . School vacations will be extended by two weeks in Buenos Aires, in an effort to prevent kids from spreading the disease. The country’s health minister resigned earlier this week, under pressure for the way the government handled swine flu and an earlier outbreak of dengue fever. In the U.K., the number of confirmed cases has risen quickly in the past week, and stood at more than 6,500 as of yesterday — up from 3,500 on June 25, according to the Department of Health . At Wimbledon, 28 staff members have been asked to stay home because they have flu-like symptoms, the BBC reports . (There are more than 6,000 staffers in total, so the vast majority

haven’t been affected.) There are also unconfirmed reports that a few players have come down with symptoms, the BBC says. Roche cut the price of Tamiflu in half for countries in the developing world. The discounted price will be around $7 or $8 for a pack of 10 capsules at 75 milligrams, the highest strength, the company said . Earlier this week, officials confirmed that a swine-flu patient in Denmark had become resistant to Tamiflu. But it was a form of resistance that develops in individual patients in response to treatment, and doesn’t tend to spread from person to person. That means Tamiflu will still work for most patients. Also, it’s important to note that most people who get swine flu recover without taking Tamiflu at all, though the drug can reduce the severity and duration of the disease.
