Here’s your morning dose of health care talk: President Obama spoke to religious leaders from around the country on a conference call late yesterday. Politico reports that he countered some of the attacks on his health care plan with a Biblical allusion: These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation: that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper. In the wealthiest nation on earth right now, we are neglecting to live up to that call. Sen. Chuck Grassley , who may be the most important Republican in the health-care debate, told the Washington Post that less may be

more for health-reform legislation: Not just on health care, but on a lot of other things Congress has done this year, people are signaling that we ought to slow up and find out where we are and don’t spend so much money and don’t get us so far into debt. Grassley is part of the bipartisan group of Senators on the Finance Committee that is continuing to work on a compromise bill. But even as that work goes on, the WSJ reports this morning that Democrats are considering an alternative strategy of breaking health-care legislation into two parts and passing certain provisions without any Republican votes.
