It’s Girl Scout Cookie time, and soon those girls in green will be as ubiquitous as Starbucks. While noshing on these fund-raising cookies seems like an American pastime, they really are just empty calories. But a treat is a treat and sometimes a necessary part of a busy woman’s day. If you need to scratch that sugary itch, I have rounded up smarter treats to substitute for your favorite flavor. Thin Mints: A four-cookie serving of Thin Mints is 160 calories with 10 g. of sugar, 8 g. of fat, and only 1 g. of protein. Try a Mint Chocolate Luna Bar to satisfy your craving. This bar may contain 20 more calories than those four cookies, but one of these bars will actually keep you feeling full until dinner. It has 12 .g

of protein, 6 g. fat, plus 15 percent of your daily requirement for calcium and hard-to-get vitamin D. Snacker be warned, this bar does have a fair bit of sugar – 13 g. Tagalongs: Along with the 150 calories in a two cookie serving , these peanut butter chocolate cookies contain 10 g fat, 8 g sugar, and 2 g protein. Reach for a Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Kind Bar. The chewy, nutty bar provides 7 g of protein and 3 of fiber. This bar does have 200 calories in though, along with 10 g of sugar, but you’ll be eating a mix of real nuts: peanuts, almonds, walnuts, and cashews. Don’t see your fave cookie? Keep on reading!
