Three bites of swine-flu news from around the world: The WHO reiterated its recommendation that children who are severely ill with the flu, or who have underlying health problems that put them at high risk for complications of the disease, should be treated with Roche’s Tamiflu or GSK’s Relenza. The WHO statement came after an analysis published this week in the British Medical Journal concluded that the drugs do shorten the duration of the disease in children, but only by about a day. Tamiflu appeared to cause vomiting in one in 20 children, the authors found. Schools in Mumbai will close for a week in an effort to slow the spread of the disease, the Times of India reports . Malls and

movie theaters will close for three days. And politicians are trying to discourage large gatherings for two religious festivals that will occur in coming days. India has had only 17 confirmed deaths from the disease, but nine of those have come in the past day, the Times says . In Israel, about 50 rabbis prayed on an airplane that circled the country earlier this week in an effort to fight the flu, the BBC reports . The aim was “to stop the pandemic so people will not keep dying from it,” one rabbi told a local newspaper, according to the Associated Press . Photo: Associated Press
