Walking briskly for five minutes is a great way to warm up before running, but it’s not exactly the most exciting activitiy. Here are three fun and challenging moves you can do inside, which is nice if it’s chilly, before heading out for a jog. Running Plank Here’s a move that will get your blood pumping and warm up your upper body as well as your hips, lower back, legs, and core. Begin in a plank position (top of a push-up), with your shoulders over your wrists and your body in one straight line. Engage your abs and step your feet together. Bend your right knee and draw it into your chest. Then simultaneously and quickly step your right foot back and bend your left knee into your chest. Keep alternating so that you’re essentially running in place. Move as fast as you want, making sure to keep your abs pulled in. Do this for one minute, take a break, and repeat. Wide Squat Steppers This exercise is perfect for warming up the muscles in your lower body

essential for running, including your glutes, quads, hamstrings, calves, and shins. Begin with your feet three to four feet apart, toes slightly pointed out. Bend your knees so they are over your ankles, shifting your weight back into your heels. Slowly take 10 steps forward, then 10 steps back, keeping your hips in a low squat position. Repeat four more times. Tabletop Lift Loosen tight shoulders, target your abs, and get your booty and hamstrings burning with this move. Sit with your legs extended. Plant your palms right next to your thighs. Press into your hands and inhale to lift your hips up so your body is in one straight line, a tabletop. Gaze behind you if this feels comfortable. Keeping your arms straight, exhale to lower your hips and straighten your legs, so your hips are hovering above the floor, pressing your heels into the ground. Repeat three sets of 12 to 15 reps. How do you warm up for your run?
